Man shot to death in parking lot
MATT BARNARD World Staff Writer
Tulsa Police Detectives are seeking witnesses from an early morning homicide after a Tulsa man was gunned down outside an apartment building.
Police were called around 2 a.m. Sunday to Windsong Apartments, 9750 E. 31st St., said Cpl. Gene Watkins of the Tulsa Police Department. When officers arrived they found Jermaine Allen Nickerson, 29, dead in the parking lot.
SHOOTING VICTIM:
Jermaine Allen Nickerson
An early investigation shows that Nickerson was shot to death after a fight at an upstairs apartment, Watkins said.
Police have interviewed several witnesses and are searching for other people who were inside the residence and may have seen the fight, Watkins said. The motive in the slaying was unclear and no arrests were made Sunday.
Nickerson, who also uses the street name “Maniac,” has a history of criminal activity, Watkins said.
He was sentenced to serve four years in prison after pleading no contest to felony second-degree burglary and possessing a firearm after a felony conviction, Tulsa County District Court records show. Nickerson also received several suspended sentences for other burglary charges.
Police canvassed the neighborhood after the slaying, questioning residents and searching for clues.
The shooting was one of several violent crimes at the apartment complex in the past year.
In July, a gunman opened fire on two people in the parking lot. Both were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. A month earlier, a trio of juvenile robbers were tracked to the area and arrested nearby after allegedly committing three separate holdups in a single day.
