Jim Smith Day in the City of Tulsa
Friday, October 5, 2007, has been proclaimed "Jim Smith Day" by the Tulsa City Council. Tulsa Police Detective Jim Smith is being honored for his 31 years of service to the citizens of Tulsa and the Tulsa Police Department.
On May 31, 2007, Detective Smith was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. As Jim battles this disease, he has received tremendous support from his fellow officers and the community.
Jim is currently receiving treatment at M.D. Cancer Care Center in Houston, Texas. While much of the medical costs are being paid for with insurance, transportation and lodging have created a significant burden on the family.
A fund has been set up at the Fraternal Order of Police Credit Union, 10110 East 11th Street, to help the family defray the costs associated with the extended stay in Houston. An anonymous donor has committed to match up to $15,000 for this cause.
Detective Smith passed away. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all those who gave of there time and resources to assist Jimmy and his family.
Please update your site to reflect that Officer Smith has since passed away. We are still going to contribute to his family.
