Casey Mankin, Week 14

Week 14

It’s getting better; we’re starting to have some fun now.  We’re only in the classroom about half the time, and the time we’re there is getting more interesting.  This week, for instance, was: shooting decisions, armed and barricaded, building searches, stuff like that.

Monday afternoon we went to the range and went through some “shoot/don’t shoot.”  We got started walking through a wooded area and shooting targets as we saw them.  After that, we went inside the range house and used the shooting simulator. It’s kind of like a video game that plays shooting scenarios and then the operator critiques our decisions.  We ran out of time before everyone in the class got through, so we’re finishing it up on the next range day.  I was one of the ones who haven’t done it yet, but everyone else said it was cool.

Tuesday, everyone went out to a church in west Tulsa and learned how to do room and building searches.

Defensive tactics was Thursday - not too bad, still sore.

We were in class all day on Wednesday and Friday.

I had drill this weekend and flew in an eight-airplane formation on Saturday afternoon.  I was in the last airplane in the formation so it was a bumpy ride.  It turned out really well though and it was a good time.  This week is only four days for us and I’m already looking forward to the weekend.
